Minnetonka is located eight miles west of Minneapolis with a population of just over 50,000 and is the 14th largest city in Minnesota. Residents have access to 42 parks and over 40 miles of trails. The only part of Lake Minnetonka that belongs to the City of Minnetonka is Gray’s Bay which is the headwaters to Minnehaha Creek which winds through Minneapolis and flows into the Mississippi River Even though the city has such a small part of the shoreline, its denizens are “OK” with that; Gray’s Bay offers some of the best muskie fishing in Lake Minnetonka, if not the entire state. Besides that, there is an excellent public landing facility with a parking lot that holds 112 vehicle with trailer spaces. Three launch lanes and 29 permanent boat slips mean that the locals have no trouble getting their boats out on the water.
Of course, nothing beats having your own dock and home on Lake Minnetonka, so if you are looking for lakefront here, you are in luck. At the time of this post, the Northstar Regional MLS indicated that there were 7 properties for sale, at an average asking price of $1,802,843. Average-year built is 1949, which reflects the fact that there are still a number of executive lake homes on Gray’s Bay that were built in the 1920’s. All of them have been lavishly updated and upgraded with various features that include gourmet kitchens, Wolf appliances, updated grand living spaces, and even second story additions. There are also some upscale Lake Minnetonka estates on the north end on Bantas Point that were built in the 1990’s by custom builders like Streeters and Associates. All of them enjoy commanding views southward across the bay.
If you can’t find the Minnetonka Lake home of your dreams here, it means that you aren’t looking very hard. Perhaps it means that you have not yet seen all of the fine real estate listings for sale on Gray’s Bay. It also could mean that you would be just as happy with a delightful waterfront home on Libb’s Lake. Libbs’s Lake is a smaller body of water that is connected by a channel to Gray’s Bay, so getting out onto Lake Minnetonka in a hurry is a non-issue.
